Redditors from all walks of life, pest experts, and armchair comedians united for a round of shocked identification, wacky theories, and plenty of jokes.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-ceiling-invader\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ceiling invader<\/h2>\n<p>As Reddit is known to do, the thread quickly took on a life of its own.<\/p>\n<p>After the original poster (OP) explained that \u201cIt moves so it\u2019s probably not dead,\u201d people examined the details \u2013 color, texture, the slight taper \u2013 and offered their thoughts on the unsettling image of the cheeky ceiling invader.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRat expert here (no official degree, but I\u2019ve seen\u00a0<em>An American Tail<\/em>\u00a0at least six times),\u201d starts one wisecracking user, referring to the 1986 animated film that features a family of mice. \u201cThis could be a tail, yes\u2026but it could also be a decoy. Call in backup. Infrared. Night vision. I want eyes on every crumb. We\u2019re not just dealing with any rodent. Not the\u00a0<em>Ratatouille<\/em>\u00a0cute Remy rat. That\u2019s a NYC kinda rat that will fight you over dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLick it. If it looks like a rat, tastes like a rat\u2026\u201d suggests another. Responding to that message, one Redditor says, \u201cPoke it with a stick and lick the stick instead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone was convinced it was a rat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOpossum, or an armadillo,\u201d writes another, or \u201ca giant wall lizard.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-push-pull-or-tickle\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Push, pull or tickle<\/h2>\n<p>Others offered more absurd guesses and solutions to discovering its identity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust a shadow. Nothing to be alarmed by,\u201d writes one, while another told OP to \u201cJust push it up and forget about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A third shares, \u201cHave you tried tickling it. Maybe it\u2019ll pull it back up and out of sight out of mind.<\/p>\n<p>Some recommended the poster \u201cshould definitely pull it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow could you not pull it?\u201d one netizen asked, prompting the OP to answer, \u201cIt\u2019s got those [little] hairs sticking out of it, no way I\u2019m touching it with my bare hands.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-burn-the-house-down\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u2018Burn the house down\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Others were, understandably, deeply disturbed. \u201cI would simply burn the house down,\u201d one user quipped \u2013 a sentiment echoed by more than a few.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully you can now move out, list [and] sell the house before that stank arrives in force,\u201d another said about the object potentially belonging to a dead rat, stuck in the ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn\u2019t stuck \u2013 it started to \u201cwiggle and move.\u201d Shortly after, OP wrote: \u201cIt\u2019s gone now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOP, are you not freaking out?!
